How To Grow AUFM. [Assets Under Female Management]? The numbers tell the story: 51 percent of the wealth in the U.S. is held by women -- yet female asset managers own less than 3.0 percent of all asset management firms and manage only one percent of assets under management (AUM).
Last year Warren Buffett kicked off the first -ever All-Female Asset Management Conference in Omaha. Now Fordham Business School is hosting its first All-Female Investment Conference. On April 21, you will hear from leading experts about:1) How this gender-investment disparity was created; 2) How women have succeeded in growing their asset management businesses; and 3) How savvy capital allocators are disrupting the structural, and cultural barriers that hinder growth in AUFM. This is a historic conference – and it is the beginning of a movement.
This year we celebrate 100 years since the passage of women's suffrage. We want women take their rightful place not only on the ballots, but also as powerful capital allocators and asset managers. We want to grow AUFM.
Who?This conference is for any man or woman, be they allocators or it aspiring, emerging or established investment managers who value Variant Perspectives. We are seeking solutions to boost diversity in the asset management industry.
Why?The conference founders are female entrepreneurs: Kim Shannon and Barbara Ann Bernard, both manage their own funds, and Laura Rittenhouse, inventor of Candor AnalyticsTM, is author of Investing Between the Lines, endorsed by Warren Buffett. We decided that the industry did not need another event for women portfolio managers to meet each other, but rather, an event where female investors and capital allocators could learn from each other. Investing more assets with more women can change the status quo. We are passionate about making this happen.
What? There is no shortage of headlines about institutional investors looking for female investment managers. And contrary to popular opinion, there is no shortage of accomplished female investment managers looking to raise assets. The solution lies in coming together. We can all play our part in being the change we wish to see in the industry.
